Standing water is a symptom. Here's how we find and fix the cause.

French drain installation

Perforated pipe and gravel trenches that intercept water before it reaches your foundation or yard.

Swales & regrading

Shallow, graded channels that carry surface water away without a single pipe in the ground.

Culverts & storm pipe

Pipe crossings and storm tie-ins sized to actually handle the water your site sees.

Yard & residential drainage diagnostics

A free walk to find where the water is actually coming from — not just where it's pooling.

Downspout & surface water tie-ins

Gutters and hardscape runoff tied into a real drainage plan instead of dumping at the foundation.

Drainage tied to grading & VSMP

DRAINAGE, ANSWERED

Quick answers, real ones.

The questions we get most from owners and GCs before this kind of job starts.

French drain vs. swale — which one do I need?

A French drain is a buried, perforated pipe that intercepts water underground — the right call when water is coming from a slope above your house or pooling near a foundation. A swale is a shaped surface channel that moves water across a yard without digging a trench — the right call for broader lot drainage where the grade allows it. Many yards need both. We diagnose which on the free site walk before recommending either.

What are the signs my yard has a drainage problem?

Standing water more than 24 hours after rain, soggy or mossy patches in the same spot every time, water pooling against the foundation, erosion channels cut into slopes, and a musty basement or crawlspace smell are the most common signs. Any one of those is worth a diagnostic walk.

How much does French drain installation cost in Lynchburg?

It depends on trench length, depth, soil conditions, and where the water has to discharge to. We don't price it over the phone — the free diagnostic walk tells us exactly what the site needs, and you get an itemized number from that.

What clients say

Taylor Tipton headshot
"Handoffs make or break a paving schedule, and Oxen Civil hands us a site that's actually ready — grade, drainage, and compaction dialed in before our crews ever show up. That kind of prep work upstream is the reason our paving schedules hold."
— Taylor Tipton, Field Operations Manager, Mr. Pave
